What is the Sticker Feature?
It's a new feature in iOS 17 that lets you easily create stickersfrom your photos. You can use these stickers in messaging apps or even in Instagram stories! It's a great way to turn your photos into stickers.
Preparation for Creating Stickers
To use this feature, you'll need iOS version 17 or later. Let's check your current version and update it if necessary.
How to Check the iOS Version
- Tap "General" in Settings.
- Tap "Software Update".
- If it says "iOS is up to date," no update is needed.
Prepare Your Photos
Choose photos with clearly visible subjects you want to cut out! I recommend checking WidgetClub's wallpapers too.
3 Ways to Create Stickers
1. Creating from Photos
- Select an image in the Photos app.
- Hold down on the subject you want to cut out.
- When the cutout tool appears, tap "Add Sticker".
- Your sticker is saved.
- To add effects, hold down the sticker.
- Tap "Add Effect".
- Choose an effect and tap Done (available effects: Outline, Comic, Puffy, Shiny).
- Complete.
2. Creating from Live Photos
You can create animated stickers using Live Photos! However, animated stickers can only be sent through the Messages app.
- Tap "Live Photos" in the Photos app.
- Tap the “Live Photo” you want to use to view it on the full screen.
- Touch and hold the subject you want to cut out, then swipe up.
- When the menu appears, tap "Add Sticker".
3. Creating from Messages
- Open Messages and tap the "New Message" icon in the top right.
- Tap the "+" icon in the bottom left.
- Tap "Stickers".
- Tap the "+" icon.
- Select a photo.
- The cutout area will be selected automatically.
- Tap "Add Sticker".
- Complete.
Can't Select the Part You Want to Cut Out?
The image might not be compatible with stickers.
- Opening the image and tapping the "i icon" at the bottom center!
- The white-outlined area shows what can be turned into a sticker.
This "i icon" might appear as a leaf icon or cat icon depending on the subject 🐈⬛
How to Add Effects Later
You'll need to open the sticker editing screen to add effects later. The easiest way is through the Messages app!
- Open Messages and tap the "New Message" icon in the top right.
- Tap the "+" icon in the bottom left.
- Tap "Stickers".
- Hold down the sticker you want to add effects.
- Tap "Add Effect".
- Complete.
How to Delete Stickers
Here's the easiest method using the Messages app.
- Open Messages and tap the "New Message" icon in the top right.
- Tap the "+" icon in the bottom left.
- Tap "Stickers".
- Hold down the sticker you want to delete.
- Tap "Delete".
- Complete.
Ways to Use Stickers
1. Create Photo and Wallpaper Collages
You can easily create collages by adding stickers to other photos or wallpapers 📷 Great for social media posts or phone wallpapers ♡
Method
- Open the base image or photo for your collage.
- Tap the "Edit" icon.
- Tap "Markup".
- Tap the "+" icon in the bottom right.
- Tap "Add Sticker".
- Tap the sticker you want to add.
- Repeat steps 4-6 to continue creating your collage.
- Tap "Done" in the top right.
- Complete.

2. Using Instagram Stories
As of November 30th, this feature isn't available in iOS 18. It works in iOS 17, so we hope it will be supported soon!
- Create an Instagram Story.
- Tap "Aa".
- Select stickers from the emoji input screen.
- Place them wherever you like.
3. Sending in Messages
- Open Messages and tap the "New Message" icon in the top right.
- Tap the "+" icon in the bottom left.
- Tap "Stickers".
- Tap the blue arrow.
- Sent.
