From iOS 16, you can create multiple iPhone lock screens and freely customize wallpapers and widgets. However, having too many lock screens can cause display issues and slow down your device! In this article, we’ll explain in detail, with pictures, how to delete unnecessary lock screen wallpapers. Organize your lock screens and keep only your favorite wallpapers.
Here’s how to delete lock screens on an iPhone with iOS 16 or later:
3. A “Delete” button will appear. Tap it.

When deleting a lock screen, keep the following points in mind:
When you try to delete a wallpaper and see the message “Lock screens cannot be deleted” or “You need to set a default lock screen not linked to Focus mode. To delete this, create a new lock screen,” it means the wallpaper is linked to a Focus mode.
Focus mode allows you to control the display of lock screen wallpapers and iPhone notifications. For example, you can set minimal notifications during sleep or use a cool wallpaper during work, switching according to the scene you want to focus on.
iPhone requires at least one lock screen that is not linked to any Focus mode, which is why you get this error.
To fix this, create a new lock screen without linking it to a Focus mode:

4. Choose your desired wallpaper (if you want to set a photo, tap “Photos” > “All” and select a photo).
5. Complete the widget settings and tap “Add.”
6. Select the wallpaper setting.
7. A new lock screen labeled “Focus Mode” will be created.
8. Move to the lock screen you want to delete and swipe up similarly.
9. Tap the “Trash” icon > “Delete This Wallpaper” to complete!
